Forlorn - A Dark Fantasy World Building Project

This is a project that I have been working on for the past several months during my free time. Essentially I wanted to create a portfolio in which all the pieces are consistent with each other. In this case, I’m designing my own fantasy world as if for a video game. I don’t have a name for the project overall but I’ve been slowly developing many aspects of this world. So far, I have a setting but am missing a plot, from which I hope a title can come from. In the mean time this is just fun world building and I’m creating all sorts of things that I would love to have in an Action RPG game.

Lyrimidia is the name of the continent that this project is set in. It is an ancient world filled with vast history, mysterious inhabitants, and no shortage of secrets. It was create by primordial deities that are now gone and all that remains in the cosmos are beings called Angels. These beings are abstract and alien and don’t care for the world below them very much, but they have had contact with humans throughout history. Much of the worlds history is unknown and the current kingdoms don’t have much information on those that came before them. The modern kingdoms (or just one kingdom?) only inhabit a small portion of the continent, the rest is surrounded by danger and mystery; both natural and magical. Though recently, in villages at the edge of the kingdoms’ land, a blight has been spreading and taking over everything. It has possessed and changed almost all life around it and seeks to spread itself. But…..A lone prisoner with a mysterious past, forced into a militia by the Crown to fight the blight may be able to do something about it. This is where the journey of the player begins.

The Fields of Lyrimidia - though the world is dark and unforgiving it doesn’t mean there can’t be lush life and beauty. Though these fields may look calm and serene, chances are there are dangerous creatures scattered all throughout.

Character Classes

These are the first three drawings of the player starter classes.

Bandit - a thief who has spent most of their time robbing innocents. Though they have weak, almost nonexistent, armor, they can be quite quick and formidable with a dagger or short sword. They rely on speed above brute strength but there isn’t anything really remarkable about them.

Ranger - skilled hunters that favor ranged weaponry. They are knowledgeable with tracking and surviving and prefer lightweight leather armor to help them sneak up on prey. They have high adaptability and stamina as well as crafting skills with natural materials.

Monk - practitioners of a different faith seeking enlightenment through meditation and teachings of an old deity. They typically favor melee based combat or sometimes use weapons such as staves. Strong magic and status effect resistance and high magic support stats. Requires a minimum stat for their melee combat to be effective.
